So perhaps you’ve exceeded your disk quota, or you have received an email warning that your disk usage is almost exceeding its resource allocation, regardless this is something worth getting on top of sooner than later.
A good start would be to troubleshoot where your disk space is currently being allocated. You can view this information by logging into cPanel and using the Disk Usage function. This will give you an overview of how much disk space is allocated to each of your directories.
Below are some methods you can use to clear up some disk space.
Upgrade your hosting plan: You may have just out grown your current hosting plan and it is now time for an upgrade. You are able to upgrade/downgrade at anytime via the client area.
Subscribe to G Suite services: if a large amount of storage is being taken up by mail, consider subscribing to G Suite services. We are an official reseller of G Suite, with just a one off setup free and then a small monthly subscription tailored to each clients needs.
Remove old or unused files: Many sites will contain a back log of files that are no longer used. Removing these from the server can restore enough disk space for the time being.
Some files that often contain a backlog of unwanted files are:
The mail folders Trash, Junk and even Drafts can gather a backlog of used/unwanted files.
-To prevent this happening you are able to configure your mail in a way that it will delete files from the server after x amount of time.
-If you are using a mail client, make sure that when you are removing files they are also removed from the server.
If you are using WordPress:
- /wp-content/uploads/ : Check this folder for old files that are no longer used.
- /wp-content/themes/ or /wp-content/plugins/ : remove any unused Themes or Plugins.
Remove old Backup files
Most of the time keeping the latest backup on file will be sufficient enough for what you need. Remove old backup files and configure your settings to delete old backup files after having creating the latest.
